LONGVIEW, Texas -- A packed Solheim Arena saw the LeTourneau volleyball team open the home schedule on Friday night, but the host YellowJackets fell to No. 17 East Texas Baptist 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-19).
LeTourneau (5-7, 0-1 ASC) opened the year with 11 straight matches away from home.
Kaci Monk had seven kills with four blocks to lead the YellowJackets, while
Hannah Payan,
Nora Lockhart, and
Yari Ortiz had five kills apiece.
Morgan Nix totaled 17 digs and
Reina Lawson had 15 assists with six digs.
ETBU (12-1, 1-0 ASC) used an 8-0 run midway through the first set to pull away for a 25-15 victory.
In set two, the teams traded the lead several times in the early going before the visiting Tigers used a 7-2 run to go up by five (15-10). LeTourneau trimmed the margin to 17-15 on a Lockhart kill, but that was as close as the YellowJackets got as ETBU took a 25-19 win.
LeTourneau had a 5-0 spurt in the third frame to grab a 9-6 lead after a block from Lockhart and
Kylee Marksberry. ETBU rallied and took the lead for good at 14-13 and pulled away to close out the sweep.
Graycee Mosley had 14 kills and six digs for the Tigers. ETBU hit .270 in the match with 45 kills. Lexi Moody had 18 assists and Callie Humphrey recorded 13 digs in the win.

LeTourneau travels to Irving, Texas, on Saturday to face Austin College (2 p.m.) and Dallas (4 p.m.).
