SHERMAN, Texas -- LeTourneau volleyball walked into Hughey Gym and took care of business against the Austin College Kangaroos, winning 3-1 (19-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-21).
Despite dropping the first set, the YellowJackets did not back down when faced with adversity. LeTourneau would claim the next three sets and move to 13-7 (5-3 SCAC) on the season. This victory also moved the team into second place in the SCAC Blue Division standings.
Every hitter played a role in the win, with seven separate YellowJackets recording five or more kills.
Logan Lear and
Emily Mullin led the charge with eight kills apiece.
Additionally, Mullin added 18 assists and 14 digs. This marks her eighth double-double of the year, and third in as many matches.
Kaylyn Taylor matched a career-high with a team-leading 17 digs, followed by
Maddy Hirneise with 16 digs of her own.
Aubree McCann returned for YellowJackets, adding six kills, including four in the first set.
Grace Talkington played a crucial role off the bench, dishing out 14 assists.
Nora Lockhart and
Ashlyn Walther tallied three blocks apiece, and Walther added six kills (.462) and three service aces as well.
The Kangaroos (11-7, 5-3 SCAC) would take eight of the last 10 points to clinch the first set. Austin College would follow this by winning the race to the halfway mark of the second set, controlling a tight 13-12 lead.
LeTourneau would answer with three straight points and continue the gritty fight of the second set. Many swings of momentum later, the YellowJackets would find themselves down late, 20-19.
However, the Jackets would take six of the final seven points, and tie the sets up 1-1 thanks to a finishing swing from Lockhart.
Austin College would answer quickly, though, rattling off four straight to begin the crucial third set. LeTourneau would save face with a run of their own, but still found themselves down early, 10-6.
A 10-3 run, including seven straight to begin, would give the YellowJackets a lead they would not relinquish, taking a critical 2-1 set lead.
LeTourneau once again found themselves down in a tight fourth set, with the Kangaroos leading 14-13.
To close things out, though, LeTourneau would answer each Austin College point with two or three of their own.
Slowly but surely, LeTourneau found itself with match-point on the line, and a wayward attack from the Kangaroos would clinch the victory for LeTourneau.
The Kangaroos were headlined by Madisin Hartsfield, who notched 13 kills on a .440 hitting percentage.
