LONGVIEW, Texas --
Henry Shore and
Leandro Ferreira had the freshman connection Sunday afternoon, as Ferreira assisted on all three goals of Shore's hat trick to lead the YellowJackets to a 3-1 victory over the St. Thomas Celts.
This hat trick is the first for the YellowJackets (3-4-5, 2-2-2 SCAC) since Oct. 24, 2019. Additionally, Ferreira becomes the first YellowJacket in over 21 years to distribute three assists in a single match.
Carson Gamble managed a pair of saves in the net and forced an unsuccessful penalty try in the second half.
Shore netted his first goal (17') of the match as the last touch of a five-man sequence.
A throw-in from
Kamden Karleskint went off the head of
Caleb Nelson, who set Ferreira up for a feed into the box. Finally, Â
Graysen Crawford's header set Shore up for a quick touch and a 1-0 lead for LeTourneau.
Crawford notched his second assist of the campaign on the play.
LeTourneau would take this lead into halftime, and the majority of the second half would be at a standoff.Â
In the 62nd minute, Shore would draw a penalty from a St. Thomas defenseman. As the last line of defense on a goal-scoring opportunity, a red card would be issued to the defender, and it became 11v10 for the remainder of the match.
The Celts (7-2-1, 3-1-1 SCAC) would not go down without a fight, though, as Bryan Garcia would answer on a long-ranged goal (73') from outside the box to tie things up at 1-1.
However, in the 80th minute, chaos ensued.
During a YellowJacket run, the St. Thomas keeper would lay hands on the ball outside the box, which then forced a red card on him as well.
Now with an 11-man to 9-man advantage, the YellowJackets had every opportunity to take advantage, and boy did they.
On the ensuing free kick, Ferreira sent one directly into the chest of the replacement keeper, who was unable to collect it.
Shore collected it for him, knocking in the eventual game-winner (80').
Not even five minutes later, the freshman duo found themselves in a 2v1 run, and Ferreira once again chose the unselfish route.
A quick pass headed to Shore allowed him to complete the hat trick (85') and etch himself into LeTourneau history.
