Men's Soccer Drops Tight Match to Colorado College

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's soccer team went toe-to-toe with the top team in the SCAC in Colorado College, but fell 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.

A 58th minute goal from Colorado College's Jack Hilliard was the difference in a tight match.

It was the final home match for LeTourneau (4-5-5, 3-3-2 SCAC) and the first all-time meeting with the visiting Tigers. Colorado College (8-0-6, 5-0-3 SCAC) has not lost a SCAC regular season match in 36 straight contests going back to 2021.

LeTourneau outshot Colorado College, 5-3, in the first half as the YellowJackets held down one of the top offenses in the conference. Nate Bransford had a good look from the right-side of the box in the first half, but put the attempt wide left. Later in the half, Marcos Gonzalez had an attempt that was saved by Tiger keeper Alex Wolter.

In the second half, LeTourneau kept the pressure on and nearly scored twice. Aidan Arcega had a shot from the top of the box in the 50th minute that went off the crossbar. In the 71st minute, Henry Shore nearly tied the match as he got loose inside the box but Wolter made an aggressive play to stop the shot attempt.

Hilliard tallied the lone goal in the 58th minute. Off a throw-in, Jack Purvis played the ball to Hilliard beyond the top of the box and Hilliard moved to create space before rocketing his attempt into the right-side of the net. The goal was his third of the year.

Both teams had 12 shots in the match, with Colorado College holding a 4-2 edge in shots on goal.

Edson Camara Martinez made three saves at the net for LeTourneau, while Wolter picked up two in his ninth shutout of the year.
