LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneu men's soccer team defeated McMurry, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.Â
After a slow start the YellowJackets rallied to score three second half goals, and gather the first SCAC win in program history. The win propels the YellowJackets to 2-3-5 and 1-1-2 in SCAC play on the campaign, while the War Hawks fall to 2-8-1 and 0-4-0 in league play on the year.Â
During the first half of action, momentum belonged to McMurry after Juan Carlos Rocha Ceron scored in the 41st minute to put the War Hawks up 1-0.Â
In the second half,
Caleb Nelson turned the tide of the match to give LeTourneau all of the momentum. Nelson blasted a shot off of his left foot and into the top right corner of the net. Nelson's 53rd minute goal was his first of the season.Â
Henry Shore was an offensive force in the second half. As he assisted on Nelson's goal, then scored a goal of his own in the 60th minute. Shore scored after receiving a long ball from
Joshua Van Wagener, driving into the box and rocketing a shot off of his right foot ans past the outstretched arms of Jose Sanchez. Shore now holds two goals and two assists on the year.Â
Marcos Gonzalez scored what would be the eventual game winning goal in the 72nd minute of the match. In what was a heads up play Gonzalez took advantage of the keeper being screened by a defender, ripping a low line drive into the back of the net.
Leandro Ferreira and
Graysen Crawford both earned assists on Gonzalez's strike.
Van Wagener, Ferreira, and Crawford all tallied their first assists of the season.
Karsten Guerra and
Jeffrey Boedeker added shots on goal.Â
Edson Camara Martinez played all 90 minutes and gathered four saves.Â
