MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- LeTourneau women's basketball were upended by the Rhodes Lynx on Tuesday afternoon, falling 76-59 inside Mallory Gymnasium.
Robbi Martinez took charge for the YellowJackets (1-4) notching a career-high 13 points in the loss, including 3-of-5 from long-range.
Mariana Espinosa added 12 points, and was a presence on the defensive end, gathering a block and a pair of steals.
Brooklyn Iman provided eight points off the bench, and
Makenzie Covey led the team with six boards.
LeTourneau found its first basket via an Espinosa layup, finishing through the contact and a foul. After the Lynx (2-5)Â answered, Martinez evened things back up with a jumper.Â
Rhodes would be the first to put together a run, answering this jumper with a 10-2 stretch. Covey and Martinez would put together consecutive baskets once again, but the Lynx would outscore LeTourneau 11-3 in the final 2:01 of the opening quarter.
The YellowJacket defense would step up at the start of the second quarter, shutting out Rhodes for the first 4:02 of the frame. LeTourneau would trim the lead down to six during this time.Â
Rhodes would make up this lost ground by securing six straight points, and the remainder of the second half would be answered blow for blow, with the Lynx leading 40-29 at the break.
LeTourneau would stumble on defense in the third, and Rhodes would take advantage. The Lynx shot 52 percent from the field in the quarter, opening up their lead to 22 by the end of the quarter, and closing the door.
Rhodes was led by Alyssa Bongiovanni, who scored 10 points and grabbed 15 rebounds.
