GOLDEN BRIDGE: Mwambukiri's Golden Goal Sends Men's Soccer into SCAC Semifinals

ROUND ROCK, Texas -- Bridge Mwambukiri's golden goal in the 100th minute lifted the No. 6 seeded LeTourneau men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over No. 3 seeded Concordia Texas in a SCAC Tournament quarterfinal on Thursday night at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.

The win propels LeTourneau (7-6-5) to the SCAC Tournament semifinals on Friday night against No. 2 seed Texas Lutheran (7:30 p.m.).

In a match that closely resembled how LeTourneau has made deep runs in conference tournaments over the last three years, the YellowJackets again found a way to advance. Only this time, instead of the match being decided by a shootout, it was a pair of freshmen connecting to send LeTourneau into the next round.

In the final minute of the first overtime, LeTourneau earned the ball back to the attacking area. From there, Leandro Ferreira settled the ball and dropped it into the box where Mwambukiri got it to his feet and drilled a shot past Concordia keeper Leonel Cueller for the game-winner. The goal was briefly reviewed to ensure Mwambukiri was not offside before being confirmed.

The goal was Mwambukiri's third of the year and Ferreira's sixth assist. To get to that point, LeTourneau needed a stellar defensive effort and the YellowJackets did just that.

Edson Camara Martinez made seven saves as he collected his second shutout of the year. Two of those saves came in a back-to-back sequence in the 38th minute when Jesse Garfias had a look on frame, but Camara Martinez knocked away his shot. The ball immediately found the foot of Bryan Rios who put another on frame and Camara Martinez was ready again and saved another.

Camara Martinez then made two critical saves in the early minutes of the second half and another in the 75th minute.

Caleb Nelson nearly put LeTourneau ahead on multiple occasions in the match. The junior placed two shots just wide in the first half, and then had a great look off a free kick in the 88th minute that Cuellar knocked away.

Nelson took four of LeTourneau's 13 shots in the match. Concordia held a 16-13 edge in shots taken.

Cueller made two saves for Concordia (9-4-5).
