Team Effort Leads Women's Hoops to Rout of Biblical Studies

LONGVIEW, TEXAS -- LeTourneau women's basketball handled business against the College of Biblical Studies Ambassadors, securing a dominating 88-52 victory inside Solheim Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Turnovers told the tale in the weekend matchup, as the YellowJackets (2-6) scored 41 points off 35 Ambassador turnovers by applying full-court pressure throughout the game.

Every member of LeTourneau's roster found the bucket in the win, with Mariana Espinosa headlining with 17 points, including 3-of-6 from long range. Fayth Fry followed with a career-high 13 points on 5-of-7 from the floor.

Madeline Underwood also had a career day for LeTourneau. The freshman notched career-best marks of eight points and nine rebounds.

Despite the scoring outburst, it was the defensive effort that earned LeTourneau the win, with 12 different YellowJackets collecting a total of 27 steals, led by Kylie Weeks and Robbi Martinez with five apiece.

Biblical Studies (0-9) found the basket on the opening possession, but LeTourneau would soon answer via a steal from Espinosa, leading to an easy layup for Martinez.

The Ambassadors would find momentum early, opening up the first 3:15 on an 8-4 run.

However, LeTourneau would spark an electric run, rolling off 16 unanswered points, eventually leaving the first quarter with a 22-10 lead.

The pressure didn't stop there, as LeTourneau took this momentum well into the second quarter.

From 7:10 remaining in the first quarter to 5:22 in the second, the YellowJackets outscored Biblical Studies 32-4, forcing 16 turnovers and shooting at a 50 percent clip.

The Ambassadors had no answers for the pressure in the second half, as LeTourneau had its largest lead of 39 with 2:15 remaining in the game.

Biblical Studies was led by Talibah Curtis with 13 points off the bench.
