LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's hoops, leading by as many as 27, cruised to victory over visiting Millsaps at Solheim Arena on Thursday evening, 90-82.
Five YellowJackets scored in double figures, led by
Jackson Mayes with 18.
Max Frels had 16,
Teigan Edwards and
David Martinez added 11, and
Logan Brinkoeter had 10 and 12 rebounds.
After Millsaps scored the first basket of the game, LeTourneau took charge, scoring 12 unanswered points to go up by 10, with Edwards scoring seven in that stretch.
The onslaught did not stop there, and with 6:34 to go, the lead had jumped up to 25 after a
Connor Miller triple.
The Majors started to get back on track in the final minute of the half, though, cutting it down to 22 at the break.
As the second half opened, Millsaps continued to climb back into it, going on a 17-2 run to trim it down to seven with 14:35 to play.
However, the YellowJackets awakened, rattling off nine straight points, capped by a Frels layup, to go back up by 16.
LeTourneau put it in cruise control the rest of the way, not allowing the Majors to get it down to a single-digit deficit until the very end.
Jaxon Toney had 23 points and 11 rebounds for Millsaps, while Davion James added 18.
