MOUNT BERRY, Ga. -- The LeTourneau men's soccer team conclude their road trip by drawing Maryville 2-2. This neutral site match tested the depth of both squads as both also took the field last night at Bob Pearson Field.
The YellowJackets saw two freshman make their first collegiate starts in
Bridge Mwambukiri and
Jeffrey Boedeker. They were not the only players with increased playing time as everyone on the Jackets travel roster earned minutes in this match.
Both teams bounced back after taking a loss in their previous match. The Jackets move to (0-1-3), and the Scots move to (2-2-4).
The first half was dominated by LeTourneau a half in which they generated persistent pressure on the opposing keeper. LeTourneau ripped nine first half shots, two on frame.
Marcos Gonzalez was the one to finally break through the Scots defense, scoring his first goal of the campaign in the 29th minute of the match.
LeTourneau saw the back line play an excellent first half as
Kristian Princ,
Sammy Shmorgun, and
Joshua Van Wagener limited Maryville to just two shot attempts.
The LeTourneau offense continued their surge into the second half as
Karsten Guerra scored his first goal of the season in the 63rd minute. The YellowJackets have scored five goals this season and they have been scored by five different players.
Maryville scored both of their goals in the final 20 minutes of the match. The first came off of a header from Jonathan Case in the 71st minute, and the second came off the foot of Hayden Tate in the 88th minute.
Edson Camara Martinez recorded five saves in the match, four of which came in the second half.
