LONGVIEW, Texas -- New conference, no problem.
LeTourneau volleyball became the first team to play, and win, a SCAC contest in the school's new era.
The YellowJackets picked up this historic feat against the Centenary Ladies in fascinating fashion with a 3-0 sweep (25-11, 25-22, 25-14).
Aubree McCann and
Nora Lockhart led the team in kills with eight apiece. McCann tacked on a pair of service aces, while Lockhart had an absurd .700 hitting percentage.
Emily Mullin made her presence known all over the court, picking up 16 assists, three service aces, and four kills.
Hailee Perry served up 17 assists,
Kaylyn Taylor added seven kills (.333), and
Emma Smith continued her efficient season, garnering six kills (.750) with zero attack errors.
After an early battle for momentum, LeTourneau (9-4, 1-0 SCAC) broke open a 4-4 tie, rattling off a 13-1 run. This lead was more than enough to give the Jackets a safe lead, eventually taking the set 25-11.
The Ladies (1-6, 0-1 SCAC) would not go down lightly, though, forcing five ties and four lead changes in the second set. After the YellowJackets held a 15-7 lead, Centenary would slowly chip away, marching back to just a two-point deficit.
Nevertheless, an emphatic kill by Lockhart would deny any hope of victory, as LeTourneau would cinch set two, 25-22.
The final set followed suit at first, seeing a couple of lead changes and three ties early.
However, after being down 11-8, the YellowJackets went for a gargantuan 17-3 run to finish the match off, featuring eight kills and five aces.
For the Ladies, Zoe Garcia picked up six kills and six digs, while Laijah Lockwood netted three blocks.
LeTourneau tallied 39 kills in the match, along with 11 service aces as a unit.
