JACKSONVILLE, Texas -- LeTourneau men's golfer
Noah Summers carded a 7-under to capture his first collegiate medalist honor at the Jacksonville College Classic, which concluded on Tuesday at the par-71 Cherokee Ranch Golf Club.
Along with the individual win, Summers helped propel the LeTourneau B team to tie for the tournament win.
Summers opened the tournament with a 5-under, 66 on Monday -- the second 66 of the season for Summers -- and followed that with a 3-under, 68 in round two. On Tuesday, the senior posted a 72 and held off UT Tyler's Corbin Murray and Tyler JC's Noah Sandlin for the top spot. Summers tallied six birdies in round one, six more in round two, and two in the final round to lead the field with 14 for the tournament.
The victory was the first in Summers' career, a monumental milestone for the senior.
The LeTourneau B team tied Tyler JC for the top spot with a 54-hole score of 856 (286-284-286). The LeTourneau C team was tied for sixth overall.
Matthew Elliott,
Corbin King,
Jaxson Green,
Bertu van Zyl, and
Brody Holmlund all took advantage of a reachable par-5 scoring eagles on hole 18 during the tournament.
Kaiden Schneider and
Trey Cates both notched top-10 overall finishes, with Schneider finishing seventh, and Cates in eighth. Schneider dropped in 12 birdies, and finished the tournament 2-over, 215 (73-71-71). Cates notched nine birdies, and finished the tournament 3-over, 216 (71-71-74).
Luke Nelson and King notched top-25 overall finishes, with Nelson finishing 16th and King 25th. Nelson tallied 12 birdies as he carded a 221 (71-75-75), and King holed seven birdies for his 226 (77-80-69).
Daniel Arcocha, Holmlund, and Elliott all posted a solid tournament finishing inside the top-30. Elliott had three birdies and an eagle as he finished with a 227 (76-74-77), while Hollund had six birdies and ended with a 228 (71-75-82). Arcocha logged four birdies and a 229 (78-73-78) for the tournament.
Van Zyl had a 233 (75-80-78) with four birdies, while Green had a 246 (83-80-83) with five birdies.
