LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's soccer opened the season with a 1-1 draw against Belhaven on Thursday night inside the Joyce Family Athletic Village.
After drawing in a physical match with Belhaven, these two teams picked up right where they left off last year.
Sammy Shmorgun got the Jackets on the board with a perfectly placed header, he was assisted by
Caleb Nelson on a corner kick in the 15th minute.
Edson Camara Martinez kept the visiting Blazers off the board for the remainder of the half. Camara Martinez corralled a pair of saves in his 45 minutes of action.
To start the second half the YellowJackets made a change in net going to
Carson Gamble. After creating continual pressure in the second half Belhaven was able to tie the match in the 78th minute, with a goal off the head of Wesley Bloodworth on a corner kick assist from Matt Smith.
Gamble came up with a stellar sequence of plays in the final five minutes. This sequence started with a penalty kick for Belhaven in the 85th minute, Gamble made an incredible save to keep the score tied at 1-1. Shortly after the penalty kick Gamble was able to prevent additional shots by intercepting dangerous cross attempts. Gamble finished the night with four saves.

Diego Enriquez, and
Karsten Guerra all tallied two shots.
Nathan Peterson,
Graysen Crawford,
Marcos Gonzalez,
Bridge Mwambukiri,
Henry Shore,
Patrick Bauer, and
Juan Angel Morales all notched a shot attempt.
Joshua Van Wagener, and Shmorgun both played all 90 minutes helping hold Belhaven to just one goal.
