SUWANEE, Ga. -- For the first time in her career, LeTourneau volleyball junior
Maddy Hirneise was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week, for the period ending on Sept. 7, the conference announced on Monday.
A junior from Hickory Creek, Texas, Hirneise averaged 7.09 digs per set with 78 digs over three matches for the YellowJackets. The junior posted 23 digs or more in each of those three matches with a career-high 31 against Covenant in a 3-1 win. She was named to the Coca-Cola Invitational All-Tournament team for her performance.
On the season, Hirneise is averaging 5.83 digs per set, a mark that sits first in the SCAC, and 20th nationally. Her 31 digs against Covenant are the most in a four-set match in the conference this season.
Additionally, Hirneise's 23 digs vs. Transylvania are also a conference-high for a three-set match.
LeTourneau (4-2) is back in action this weekend, heading to the UMHB Classic on Sept. 12-13.
