Dominant Second Half Leads Men's Hoops to Victory

IRVING, Texas -- A dominating second-half performance led LeTourneau men's basketball to a 75-55 victory over Dallas in the Maher Athletic Center on Friday night.

LeTourneau (9-5, 4-1 SCAC) played stifling defense after the break, holding the Crusaders to just 19 points on 5-of-22 from the floor. The YellowJackets scored 19 points off 22 Dallas turnovers to earn their second straight victory.

On the offensive end, it was a team effort in the scoring column. LeTourneau had 11 separate men find the basket, with four reaching double-figures.

Teigan Edwards took the lead in the points department, netting 14 on 5-of-10 from the floor and a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Logan Brinkoeter followed closely with 12 points, while Cooper Smith and Jackson Mayes contributed 11 apiece.

Momentum could not be obtained after the jump, with the first half seeing 11 lead changes. The Crusaders (6-8, 2-3 SCAC) would be the first to obtain a two-possession lead after Thomas Fleming knocked down a triple, followed by a backdoor layup to lead 15-10 with 14:06 on the clock.

The YellowJackets would immediately answer, thanks to Smith netting his first of three 3-pointers in the contest, followed by Edwards banking in a layup to knot the contest once more.

More back-and-forth would ensue before the largest lead of the half came with 4:44 remaining when Dallas knocked down a 3-pointer to lead 32-25.

For its second consecutive game, LeTourneau closed out the first half with a strong run. The YellowJackets scored 10 unanswered points, which began when Brinkoeter rejected a Crusader dunk attempt, leading to a Smith 3-pointer on the other end of the floor.

Brinkoeter would follow with a made basket of his own, and a Mayes jumper would tie the contest at 32-32. LeTourneau would hold a slim 37-36 lead at the halftime break.

However, the YellowJackets would play an entirely new game in the second half.

Edwards would score the first five points of the half on his own, and LeTourneau would be off and running.

The YellowJackets would play harassing defense to open up the half, holding Dallas to just six points through the first 12:17.

LeTourneau extended its lead to as much as 21 after knocking down three straight triples thanks to Smith and Edwards.

Even the LeTourneau bench kept pouring it in, as Ezra Seay and Noah Stull checked in late and recorded their first baskets of the season.

Fleming led the way for Dallas with a game-high 15 points, while Kris Burgan had 10 and a pair of blocks.
