Women's Hoops Storms Past Centenary, 79-66

SHREVEPORT, La. -- Kylie Weeks scored a game-high 20 points to lead the LeTourneau women's basketball team to a 79-66 victory over Centenary on Friday night in SCAC play inside the Gold Dome.

LeTourneau (4-7, 1-1 SCAC) has won two straight and avenged an earlier season loss to Centenary (2-8, 1-1 SCAC).

Weeks scored 20 points -- just three points shy of her career best -- to go with five assists, three steals, and two rebounds. Weeks went 4-of-5 from 3-point land and 6-of-6 at the free throw line to lead LeTourneau to seven triples in the win.

Makenzie Covey added 12 points and Sallie Moser had 11 points with six assists. Mariana Espinosa recorded a double-double with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.

The YellowJackets came out firing in the first half. A 12-0 scoring run over two-minute stretch in the first quarter, capped by a pair of Espinosa free throws, to put the YellowJackets ahead 14-4 in the early minutes of the period.

LeTourneau never trailed the rest of the game and led 46-34 at the half. The YellowJackets shot 50 percent (16-of-32) from the field in the first half with four 3-pointers.

A Kaylin Cervantes basket early in the third quarter pushed the margin to 16 (50-34) and a Weeks fastbreak layup after an Espinosa steal gave LeTourneau its largest lead of the night at 55-34 with 6:42 left in the third.

Centenary cut the margin to 10 (61-51) entering the fourth quarter, but Covey drained a jumper on LeTourneau's first possession and the lead stayed in double figures the rest of the way.

Cervantes finished with eight points and Robbi Martinez added six points and five rebounds. Madeline Underwood collected five rebounds with five points and Taylor Brown tallied five points off the bench.

LeTourneau made 40.6 percent (28-of-69) from the field with seven 3-pointers and went 16-of-26 at the line, led by Weeks' 6-for-6 effort. Martinez totaled six points and seven rebounds.

Centenary received 15 points from Amiyah Barrow and 11 points and 11 rebounds from Kyra Stokes in the loss. LeTourneau defense turned the Ladies over 22 times and held them to 37 percent (27-of-73) from the floor.
