LONGVIEW, Texas -- Four players scored in double figures for the LeTourneau women's basketball team, but the YellowJackets could not overcome defending SCAC champion Texas Lutheran in an 84-61 loss on Friday night inside Solheim Arena.
Kylie Weeks had 18 points with six steals, seven rebounds, and two assists to lead LeTourneau (4-12, 1-6 SCAC).
Sallie Moser had 12 points with four rebounds,
Mariana Espinosa tallied 11 points, and
Fayth Fry totaled 10 points with seven rebounds in the loss.
LeTourneau played right with Texas Lutheran (12-4, 7-0 SCAC) for much of the game, but a third quarter explosion by the visiting Bulldogs sealed the victory for the guests.
LeTourneau gained an early 5-3 lead after a 3-pointer from Espinosa in the first period and led 8-5 on a triple from Weeks moments later. A 9-0 run by Texas Lutheran gave the Bulldogs a 14-8 lead at the 5:13 mark of the quarter and TLU took a 19-16 margin into the second.
The YellowJackets briefly led again as Moser drained a 3-pointer with 5:55 left in the second to make it 25-24, but another 9-0 spurt by the Bulldogs gave them the lead for good.
In the third quarter, Texas Lutheran shot 75 percent (12-of-16) from the field and outscored LeTourneau 30-13 in the period to extend the margin to 65-42 entering the fourth.Â
Texas Lutheran connected on 49.2 percent (30-of-61) from the field with six 3-pointers and an 18-of-26 effort at the foul line. Sarahi Jones had a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Texas Lutheran while Davi'Yanna Jones added 17 points.
LeTourneau made seven 3-pointers on the night, led by three from Weeks and two each from Moser and Espinosa. The YellowJackets went 10-of-14 from the free throw line and made 35.5 percent (22-of-62) from the field.

LeTourneau hosts Concordia Texas on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., in a rescheduled game from Jan. 24 due to severe winter weather.
