LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's basketball erupted for 50 points in the second half to secure a double-digit comeback victory over Dallas.
The YellowJackets pick up a major 84-72 win over the SCAC Blue Division foe Crusaders, earning their sixth straight finish in the win column. The Friday night win inside Solheim Arena move LeTourneau to 12-5 on the season and 7-1 in SCAC play.
Logan Brinkoeter recorded his ninth double-double of the year by matching his career-best of 24 points and pulling in 11 boards. Brinkoeter was a force on the defensive end as well, rejecting three shots and coming away with one steal.
Jackson Mayes followed suit with 18 points of his own, while
Teigan Edwards made an impact in every faction of the game, collecting 13 points (5-7 FG), six rebounds, three assists, and four swipes.
Jayden Prioleau also made an impact off the bench, recording nine points. LeTourneau outscored the Crusaders (8-10, 4-4 SCAC) by 21 in Prioleau's 12 minutes.
Dallas would hold control following the opening tip, rolling off a 10-2 run through the first 3:41 of the contest.
Cooper Smith would attempt to end the run by finding a bucket inside, but the Crusaders kept the gas on the pedal.
LeTourneau would not be put away so easily, though, rattling off eight unanswered to cut the lead back to four.
The teams would trade blows, but the Crusaders' 16-30 (53.3%) first-half shooting would keep the momentum on their end of the floor.
The lead would extend to 38-24 by the 2:26 mark, and it seemed Dallas was going to take advantage of an off-night for LeTourneau.
However, the YellowJackets had other plans.
LeTourneau outscored Dallas 26-11 over the next 9:00 of play, grasping their first lead of the contest when Prioleau knocked down a jumper with 13:26 to make it 50-49.
The game would truly turn into a tug-of-war following this play, with both teams trading runs to keep it a tight-knit contest.
Thomas Fleming netted a triple for Dallas to tie things up at 63-63 with 6:54 to play, followed by a tip-in basket to regain the lead.
The YellowJackets would get hot at the right time, though, running off a 14-2 stretch over the next 3:04 -- largely thanks to three straight 3-pointers from Brinkoeter -- to possess a double-digit lead that would close out the game.
Fleming had 22 points to lead Dallas, while Johny Olmsted followed with 13.
