Mayes Joins 1,000 Point Club, Men's Hoops Wins Sixth Straight

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's basketball powered through an Austin College second-half comeback to secure an 82-69 win on Saturday inside Solheim Arena.

Jackson Mayes recorded 20 points, including a 3-pointer in the second half, to join the illustrious 1,000 career point club. Mayes shot 50% (7-14 FG) and grabbed six rebounds in the win.

Teigan Edwards flirted with a triple-double, garnering 17 points, 10 boards, and nine assists. Edwards was everywhere on the defensive end, picking up five steals as well.

Logan Brinkoeter nearly recorded another double-double, collecting 15 points and nine rebounds, while Max Frels knocked in a pair of triples en route to 12 total points and a pair of steals.

The YellowJackets shot 30-53 (51.7%) from the field, while adding nine 3-pointers and holding Austin College to just 23.5 % (4-17) from beyond the arc to secure their sixth straight victory.

After trading buckets in the opening minutes, LeTourneau (12-5, 8-1 SCAC) would open up the game via back-to-back 3-pointers from Brinkoeter and Edwards, respectively.

While the Kangaroos (4-14, 1-8 SCAC) would keep things close, LeTourneau would possess and multiple-possession lead for the majority of the first half.

Mayes would take matters into his own hands after the break, scoring the first eight points of the half on his own. His triple at the 18:29 mark clinched his 1,000-point milestone and pushed the Jackets to a 50-38 lead.

Austin College would make things interesting following the iconic basket, storming back and running off a 13-0 stretch to give them their first lead of the contest with 15:30 remaining.

However, a 14-0 answer -- capped by a wide open corner triple by Connor Miller -- over the next 5:18 by the Jackets would steal the momentum right back and maintain it the remainder of the contest.

The YellowJackets would extend their lead to as much as 18 and secure the season sweep over Austin College.

Kidus Getenet led the way for the Roos with 19 points, while Jamien June added 14.
