ROUND ROCK, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's soccer team dropped a tight match to finish its first conference road trip of the season.
The YellowJackets found themselves in their second defensive battle of the week, which they lost 1-0 to Concordia Texas Sunday afternoon at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex.
LeTourneau (4-5-1, 0-1-1 SCAC) and Concordia (5-4-1, 2-0 SCAC) both started the match with several shots early on. Though the first half ended scoreless, each team managed to notch five or more shots.
The second half started with the YellowJackets taking two shots in the first five minutes of the period.
In the 57th minute, Joshua Van Wagener was called for a penalty in the box, which gave Enoch Morebise the try, which he knocked into the left corner of the goal to give the Tornados a 1-0 lead.
LeTourneau responded to the goal by ramping up its offensive pressure. The YellowJackets managed 10 shots in the second half and outshot Concordia 15-11 in the match.
LeTourneau's best chance came in the 90th minute when Bridge Mwambukiri found a loose ball at the top of the box with Concordia's keeper, Leonard Cuellar, out of position. Mwambukiri fired the ball toward the middle of the goal, but the Tornados cleared it just before it crossed the line.
Mwambukiri and Julian Ibarra both registered three shots on the afternoon. Colton Chalker, Caleb Nelson, Marcos Gonzalez, Jaron Wilkerson, Aaron Olguin, and Leandro Ferreira each added at least one shot.
Concordia won the rematch of last year's SCAC Conference Tournament first-round match-up, which LeTourneau won 1-0 in overtime.
Carson Gamble played all 90 minutes at keeper for LeTourneau. Cuellar earned a clean sheet for Concordia with one save.
