3-Point Barrage Propels Men's Hoops

LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau men's basketball tied the program record of 20 made 3-pointers in their Friday night win over Ozarks.

The YellowJackets (16-6, 11-2 SCAC) cruised past the Eagles, 100-51, breaking the program record in the largest victory over a Division III opponent in the NCAA-era. This comes just one game after LeTourneau set the record against Hendrix last week.

Five Jackets produced double figures in the scoring column, led by Jackson Mayes with 20 points in just 20 minutes. David Martinez and Jayden Prioleau had 15 points apiece, while Connor Miller and Teigan Edwards added 12 and 10, respectively.

Edwards dished out five assists in the win, while Jak Kinder had a game-high six dimes.

Mayes, Prioleau, and Miller managed four triples apiece, while Martinez netted three made 3-pointers. Overall, LeTourneau shot 20-41 (48.8%) from downtown, while going 37-66 (56.15) overall from the field.

Edwards banked in an and-one basket on the first possession of the game, and LeTourneau rolled from there on out. The first triple came from Mayes at the 16:48 mark to extend the lead to 10-3.

The deep ball was definitely the game plan, as LeTourneau had a run of six straight makes coming from beyond the arc, which extended the lead to 32-15 by the 7:36 mark.

Prioleau made three of his triples in the final 2:35 of the first half as the downpour continued, with the YellowJackets leading 52-20 at the break.

Those 52 first-half points were enough to outscore the Eagles' (3-19, 2-11 SCAC) entire game point total of 51.

Though the offense shone in the victory, the suffocating defense that held Ozarks to 51 points was the lowest any opponent had scored against LeTourneau all season. The Eagles were held to just 32.1% (17-53) from the field in the game.

Dylan Archey led Ozarks in scoring with 15, while Adam Lopez had 14 points.
