Women's Basketball Falls on Senior Day

LONGVIEW, Texas -- Playing its final home game of the season, the LeTourneau women's basketball team fell to Hendrix, 69-55, on Saturday evening inside Solheim Arena.

LeTourneau honored its two seniors -- Kylie Weeks and Makenzie Covey -- before the game. Weeks entered the day second all-time in program history in career free throw percentage and in the top 10 all-time in free throws made by a YellowJacket. Covey has been a member for three seasons and a starter this season.

Mariana Espinosa led LeTourneau (5-18, 2-12 SCAC) with 16 points and six rebounds in the loss. Robbi Martinez and Covey had eight points each, while Weeks had four points and three steals. Fayth Fry added six points and eight rebounds off the bench.

LeTourneau got out to a quick start as Covey drained a jumper before Weeks got a steal that led to a bucket by Martinez forcing a Hendrix timeout just over a minute into the game.

Hendrix responded with an 11-0 run and never trailed the rest of the game.

Despite trailing, LeTourneau was within four (17-13) at the end of the first quarter after Kaylin Cervantes made a jumper on the YellowJackets' final possession of the period. Hendrix took a 30-25 lead into halftime.

Hendrix (14-9, 10-4 SCAC) stretched its lead to 12 (39-27) early in the third period after a layup from Chloey-Rei Brown with 7:29 left. The visiting Warriors led 52-42 entering the fourth.

A Covey jumper on LeTourneau's first possession of the fourth trimmed the deficit to single-digits and another Covey bucket later made it a 54-48 game with 6:21 remaining. A 13-0 run over the next three-plus minutes iced the game for Hendrix.

Brown finished with a game-high 21 points and nine assists for Hendrix. Riley Brady added a double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds in the win.

Hendrix was limited to 35.9 percent (23-of-64) from the field, but made 17-of-24 at the foul line and held a 45-33 rebounding edge. LeTourneau made 37.3 percent (22-of-59) from the field.
