HOUSTON, Texas --
Kylie Weeks scored 17 points and the LeTourneau women's basketball team had a five-point lead after the first quarter before falling to St. Thomas, 72-54, on Friday night in SCAC play.
Weeks made four 3-pointers and added two assists to her 17-point performance to lead the way for LeTourneau (5-19, 2-13 SCAC).
Mariana Espinosa totaled 11 points with seven rebounds and
Makenzie Covey had 10 points with six rebounds.
LeTourneau shot 50 percent (7-of-14) from the field with four 3-pointers in the first quarter to take a 21-16 lead into the second period. The YellowJackets ended the quarter on a 12-2 run, highlighted by two 3-pointers from Weeks and one from
Robbi Martinez, to go ahead by five at the end of the period.
St. Thomas (17-6, 10-5 SCAC) responded by outscoring LeTourneau 20-9 in the second period to take the lead for good.
LeTourneau got the first basket of the third quarter, a jumper from Covey, to cut the deficit to 36-32. St. Thomas answered with an 8-0 run to extend the lead to 44-32 with 6:15 left in the period.
LeTourneau ended the night connecting on 41.7 percent (20-of-48) overall with six 3-pointers.Â
Kenna Gibson led St. Thomas with 18 points and Amyia Bowie added 17 points with seven assists in the win. The Celts connected on 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field and 10-of-16 at the foul line.
