WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas -- For the second time in three seasons, the LeTourneau men's golf team is a conference champion.
Backed by a 5-under round, LeTourneau pulled away from the field and claimed the program's first SCAC championship in a weather-shortened final round on Tuesday at the Hawks Creek Golf Club.
The final round was shortened to just nine holes as rain moved through the area during the morning. The delay and the shorter round did not affect LeTourneau as the YellowJackets fired a 5-under, 139 to win the tournament by 12 strokes over second-place Texas Lutheran.
LeTourneau finished the tournament with a 4-under, 716 (292-285-139). The tournament score of 4-under set a program record for a conference championship.
The YellowJackets earn the SCAC's automatic berth to the NCAA Championships -- set for May 12-15 at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. It will be the program's fourth straight trip to the NCAA Championships, continuing a program-record streak. The conference title is the second for the program, joining the 2024 team that won the ASC.
LeTourneau put three players inside the top-five for the tournament.
Rafa Torres had the best round on Tuesday as he finished 3-under, 33 to climb eight spots into a tie for second overall. Torres birdied his first three holes and had four in the round. The freshman finished 1-under, 179 (73-73-33) for the tournament and earn All-SCAC first team honors for his placement.
Torres becomes the third player in program history to finish second at a conference championship (2009, Joel Thelen; 2025,
Owen Prewitt).
LeTourneau had all five players earn All-SCAC selections in Torres,
Owen Prewitt,
Brody Holmlund,
Kaiden Schneider, and
Trey Cates.
Prewitt went even-par, 36 in the final round to place in a tie for fifth with Holmlund. Prewitt had one birdie in the round and totaled 12 for the tournament as he earned All-SCAC first team honors. Prewitt finished the tournament with an even-par, 180 (72-72-36). It is his first career All-Conference accolade.
Holmlund also collected first team All-SCAC as he tied Prewitt for fifth overall. The freshman shot an even-par, 36 on Tuesday with two birdies as he registered 10 in the tournament. Holmlund was in the top-five on the leaderboard after each round and garners his first top-10 finish.
Schneider and Cates finished in a tie for 13th.
Schneider collected All-SCAC honorable mention as one of the top five ranked players in the conference entering the tournament, but finishing outside the top-10. Schneider shot a 3-over, 39 in the final round to finish the tournament with a 3-over, 183 (76-68-39). He had seven birdies in the tournament.
Schneider also made program history as he becomes the first four-time All-Conference selection.
Cates shot a 2-under, 34 on Tuesday to move up six spots and tie for 13th in the field. Cates made a birdie on each of his first four holes to go 2-under in the round. He finished with a 3-over, 183 (77-72-34) and had 11 birdies. He also collected All-SCAC honorable mention as one of the top-ranked players in the league. It was Cates' second career All-Conference honor.
It is the fourth straight year LeTourneau has had at least four players earn All-Conference honors.
