HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. -- For the first time in program history, the No. 16-ranked LeTourneau men's golf team advances to the final two rounds of the NCAA Division III Championships.
Following a solid performance in round one, the YellowJackets did enough on Wednesday's round two, posting a 14-over, 298 team score at the par-71 Las Colinas course at Mission Inn Resort.
After placing 21st and just missing the cut each of the last three years, LeTourneau is tied for 14th overall at 18-over, 590, and will compete in rounds three and four over the next two days, with the top 18 teams making the cut.
Illinois Wesleyan soared to the top of the standings after its 9-under, 279 on day two, leading with an overall score of 5-under, 567. Oglethorpe's Ryan Dunn leads the individual field at 6-under, 137 after two rounds.
Trey Cates,
Kaiden Schneider, and
Rafa Torres each posted a 3-over, 74 in round two, with Cates and Schneider sitting 3-over on the tournament and tied for 41st.
Cates began and ended his round with birdies, totaling four on the day. His nine birdies in the tournament are tied for third amongst the field.
Schneider started Wednesday red hot, posting an even-par 35 on the front nine, and was 1-under through his first 14 holes. The senior collected three birdies in round two.
Torres' 3-over, 74 came with three birdies, one of which came on a par five, on which LeTourneau is 10-under for the tournament on such holes, tied for second amongst the field. Torres is 5-over through two rounds.
Brody Holmlund bounced back in round two, carding a 5-over, 76, and
Owen Prewitt rounds out the YellowJacket golfers with his 7-over, 78 on Wednesday.
