MY LETU STORY: Victoria Wilson

NOTE: This is part of a series on letuathletics.com with feature stories written by senior student-athletes about their time at LeTourneau and the impact it has made on them.

My time spent at LeTourneau has been the most transformative season of my life, shaping not just my academic growth but my relationship with God, my character, and my community.

Being a student-athlete at LeTourneau has brought unique experiences and strong relationships. These past four years have been the best years I could have ever asked for.

The track and field team has grown tremendously since my freshman year, and I am thankful for the teammates and the coaches that I have had along my journey. They have helped deepen my understanding of what it means to be a servant leader and helped me grow closer to the Lord. I have loved gaining new friendships from being on the track and field team.

These relationships have brought lifelong connections that are rooted in faith and community. This year's team verse is John 3:30, and it states, “He must increase, I must decrease.” I admire this verse because it reminds me that I am competing for one audience. No matter the outcome, God is above everything.

I want to highlight my coaches because they have led me to where I am today as an athlete. Coaches leave an impact on an athlete's life, and sometimes it is not always a positive one. I am so blessed and thankful to say that I have had coaches who have truly invested their time and energy into me. I have been to Chicago, California, and Virginia for last-chance meets while trying to qualify for nationals. They have given me every opportunity to get me to the next level of competition. They care about my life in and out of track.

A coach who cares for the athlete as a whole is one who makes a lasting impact. I am grateful to say that God has placed coaches in my life who exude this kind of coaching. There aren’t enough words to describe how thankful I am.

Something that I have truly valued is how much time and effort the professors invest in their students. As a kinesiology major, I have had the opportunity to have Dr. [Jordan] Schools and Dr. [Wayne] Jacobs as my professors since my freshman year. These two professors have impacted my life in various ways. Knowing that your professors pray for you and care about you is a feeling that reflects the love of Christ. At the beginning of every class period, these professors pray before they start their lecture. They have modeled how to live out their faith and have encouraged me to continue to grow closer to Christ in my actions as well as my vocation. Having professors who truly care about education and love their students as their own made a significant impact on my learning.

Coming to LeTourneau, I was spiritually lost and couldn't find my purpose. During my sophomore year, I became connected to Younglife, and this is where the Lord changed my heart and life. I gained new friends, started doing bible studies, and began serving kids through Younglife. This brought more joy into my life than I ever could have imagined.

Being a YellowJacket has forever changed my life. I know that God used this university to draw me closer to Him in ways that I could have never imagined.
