LONGVIEW, Texas -- LeTourneau University held a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 19, 2026 for the brand-new Athletic & Human Performance Air Dome.
Nearly two years after the groundbreaking ceremony, the Air Dome is officially open for track meets, classes, and much more.
"We are thrilled to open an elite facility that will benefit the University, the athletics department, and all of East Texas," said LeTourneau Vice President for Athletics
Dr. Tim Sceggel. "This facility aligns perfectly with our mission to cultivate disciples and pursue excellence."
Dr. Sceggel, along with LeTourneau University President Dr. Steven D. Mason and LeTourneau University Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations Dr. Terry Zeitlow, made remarks about the facility during the ceremony. Ribbon cutting ceremonies took place at each of the six named areas of the facility and included faculty, staff, and current student-athletes.
The facility will hold its first collegiate track and field meet on Dec. 4, 2026.
The Athletic & Human Performance Air Dome propels LeTourneau athletics programs forward, while supporting campus and community health and well-being. It also marks LeTourneau as a leader in innovative, applied education.
The 120,000-square foot facility opened in 2026 and is home to a national-championship-quality track and field facility that enhances YellowJacket athletics performance and recruiting. With a 200-meter hydraulic-banked track and a seating capacity of 1,500, the Dome has the ability to host track meets of all sizes.
The project -- part of LeTourneau University's Build with Purpose campaign -- created a premier indoor track and field facility, suitable for hosting major regional and national meets, as well as a variety of other spaces for athletics, academics, and recreation. The Air Dome serves not only LeTourneau University but also Longview and all of East Texas, creating an attractive and flexible venue for sports competitions and other large events.
Along with the track and field programs, the Air Dome supports student and employee wellness, and extends recreation and intramural options. It will also serve as a source of academic growth with Human Performance and Sport Studies program space.
