Men's Soccer Uses Flurry of Goals to Notch Fourth Win

LONGVIEW, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's soccer team picked up their fourth win of the season with an offensive explosion.

The YellowJackets scored double-digit goals for the first time since 2004 and picked up an 11-0 win over Texas College Tuesday night at the Joyce Family Athletic Village.

In the 20th minute, Leandro Ferreira fed a ball in to freshman defender Julian Ibarra, who tapped the ball over a defender to Bridge Mwambukiri, who used a right-footed shot to give LeTourneau (4-1) a 1-0 lead. The assist was the first of Ibarra's career. The goal was the second of the season for Mwambukiri.

Not long after, in the 33rd minute, freshman Ezequiel Romero gathered a ball inside the box and dropped off a feed to fellow freshman Angel Torres, who blasted a right-footed shot from outside the box that found the right corner of the net to give LeTourneau a 2-0 lead. The goal was the first of Torres' career.

The YellowJackets did not stop scoring. In the 39th minute, Jeffrey Boedeker dribbled into the right corner of the box and turned the ball back to Romero, who netted his first career goal to give the YellowJackets a 3-0 lead. The assist was Boedeker's first of the season.

Just three minutes later (42'), Romero earned his second assist of the match with a feed into the box for Marcos Gonzalez, who slipped a shot past Texas College (0-4-1) keeper Walid Benchekroune to give LeTourneau a 4-0 lead.

Just before the end of the first half (45'), Romero notched his third assist after his shot was deflected by Benchekroune and knocked in with a right-footed shot from freshman Jacob Rohde to give LeTourneau a 5-0 lead. The goal was the first of Rohde's career.

Right as the second half started (46'), Ferreira gathered a loose ball in the Texas College box and netted his second goal of the season with his right foot to give the YellowJackets a 6-0 lead.

In the 49th minute, Colton Chalker drove the ball down the right corner and sent a cross to Caleb Nelson, who glanced a shot off his head and into the back of the net for a goal and a 7-0 YellowJackets lead. The goal was the first of the season for Nelson.

Just a minute and a half later (51'), Chalker found the back of the net with a deflected shot that found the net to give LeTourneau an 8-0 lead. Chalker picked up his second goal and second assist of the season Tuesday night.

In the 77th minute, Romero found the net again off a feed from Gonzalez, giving the YellowJackets a 9-0 lead. With three assists for the match, Romero is tied for third on the all-time single-match assists record.

In the 86th minute, Jaron Wilkerson added to the blowout with his first career goal from the left side of the box to give LeTourneau a 10-0 lead.

Patrick Bauer added his second career goal in the 89th minute to round out the scoring for LeTourneau in an 11-0 win.

The LeTourneau men's soccer team hasn't scored double-digit goals since a 19-0 win over Southwestern Christian in 2004.

Romero led the YellowJackets with two goals and three assists, followed by Ferreira, Chalker, and Gonzalez, who all notched a goal and an assist.

Victor Velazquez played all 90 minutes in goal for LeTourneau. Texas College keeper Benchekroune played 90 minutes in goal for the Steers and gathered 14 saves.
