GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The LeTourneau men's soccer team lost a close road match 1-0 at No. 12 Southwestern.Â
LeTourneau (4-4) lost its last match of the non-conference slate to Southwestern (7-1), who scored a stunner in the 69th minute to win Thursday at the Varsity Field.Â
The first half was action-packed despite being scoreless, with both teams seeing good chances at a goal. Neither team was able to get one of their three combined shots past the opposing keeper, resulting in a scoreless first half.Â
The second half played out very similarly until Danny Wasserman dropped a ball off to Landon Guenther, who blasted a shot from outside the box that deflected off the right post and into the net to give Southwestern a 1-0 lead.Â
The YellowJackets had several chances to equalize in the last 20 minutes of play. Jeffrey Boedeker had the best chance after Marcos Gonzalez crossed a ball into the box, which Boedeker missed just over the crossbar.
The Pirates finished with four shots on goal to LeTourneau's two. Boedeker, Bridge Mwambukiri, Joshua Van Wagener, Leandro Ferreira, Zach Parris, and Caleb Nelson all registered shots.
Edson Camara Martinez played all 90 minutes in goal for LeTourneau and notched three saves. TJ Bass earned the clean sheet for the Pirates with two saves.Â
