Box Score Longview, Texas-The LeTourneau women's soccer team battled Louisiana College in American Southwest Conference action Friday night at LETU's Joyce Athletic Village, but came up short in the effort, losing 3-0. The YellowJackets were coming off a great win over Ozarks last weekend while LC came into town suffering from one point losses in their last four games.
The Jackets' slow start resulted in back-to-back goals from LC around the 16 minute mark, forcing LETU to play catch-up throughout the game. "We came in with the opportunity to win two games in a row, but started out a little flat defensively," said head coach David Plunk. " LC has a good team that is much deeper than we are, so they were able to hold on and capture the win."
LC's Taylor Bergeron scored at the 15:57 mark on an unassisted cross shot that hit the post.16 seconds later, Sara Smith found the back of the goal on an assist from Brandi Martin. The LETU women played much better in the second half but were not able to capitalize on scoring opportunities, leaving them short-handed on the scoreboard.
LeTourneau's goalkeeping duties were split evenly between freshmen keeper Jamie Aguillen and freshmen Nicole Kemper. Kemper, coming off an injury, saw action in the second half and recorded four saves, while Aguillen registered seven saves in the first half.
For the match, Louisiana College, (5-8-0, 2-6-0), outshot LeTourneau, (1-12-0, 1-7-0), 23-5.
The YellowJackets will return to ASC action on Saturday afternoon when they host Mississippi College at 4:00 pm.
