Box Score 2 SHREVEPORT, La. - The LeTourneau YellowJacket softball team returned to the campus of Centenary College for the final day of the Louisiana College Round Robin Tournament. The Jackets split a pair of games, knocking off Centenary College in Game One before falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor later that afternoon.
In the first game of the day, the LeTourneau bats came alive as they throttled the Ladies, 11-3. In the first inning, senior Juliana Tuel led the game off with a double in the gap followed by a bunt single and steal by freshman Taylor Kaderli. After two outs including a tag out at home and a walk to junior Jorudan Glover, junior Anna Winter made contact as Centenary made an error and a run scored for a 2-0 lead. Junior Sara Whitehead followed that up with a single to right to extend the lead to 3-0.
Junior Taylor Thibodeaux, who is closing in on the All-Time Strikeouts Record in LETU History, put the Ladies down in order and Kaderli singled in a RBI to extend the lead to 4-0.
The Jackets broke the game open when Glover, Winter, and Whitehead had back-to-back-to-back doubles to plate another run. Sophomore Brittinie Alcorn drove home a run and another one came home on an error for a 7-0 lead.
Centenary tried to claw back, but LeTourneau got two RBIs from freshman Lana Holbrook and a RBI from Borders to take the 11-3 victory.
Thibodeaux got the win to improve to 2-0 on the season, pitching four innings and striking out six. Junior Kaylee Pritchett added three innings of scoreless ball while only allowing one hit.
Whitehead was 3-for-3 on the day with a RBI and a run scored while Kaderli was 3-for-4 with a RBI and three runs scored. Sophomore Brooklyn Greene was 1-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.
In the second game, the Jackets took on Mary Hardin-Baylor in a non-conference game. After three scoreless innings, the Cru got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth. However, Whitehead responded in the top of the fifth with a RBI single to tie the game at one.
The Jackets then took the lead in the top of the sixth as Glover smashed a two run homerun down the left field line.
However, the lead was short lived as UMHB got four runs in the sixth inning to pull ahead and get the win, 5-3.
Junior Kelli Parton took the loss, giving up two runs including the go ahead run. Pritchett, Thibodeaux, and freshman Karen Kubacak all saw action in the circle.
Offensively, Glover led the way going 2-for-3 with a homerun and two RBIs while Winter went 2-for-3 with a run scored. Whitehead added a 1-for-2 with a RBI.
The Jackets go 6-2 on the young season and will be back on the road on Thursday to take on Hardin-Simmons in a doubleheader in Forney, Texas. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. followed shortly by the second game.
