Jackets Drop Pair to Nationally Ranked Wildcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PINEVILLE, La. - The LeTourneau YellowJacket softball team returned to action on Tuesday afternoon as they took on the Louisiana College Wildcats on the road. Facing the No. 24 team in the country, the Jackets comeback effort came up short in game one before dropping the night cap in game two.

In game one, the Jackets struck first as sophomore Brooklyn Greene got things rolling in the top of the second with a leadoff double. Greene then took off for third and an overthrow by the catcher brought her home for the early 1-0 lead.

However, Louisiana College (9-2, 3-1 ASC) got four runs in the bottom half of the second, thanks in part to walks and an error.

The Jackets (15-7, 4-4 ASC) looked to respond in a hurry, getting a solo blast from freshman Shelby Borders  in the third and a homerun from Greene in the fourth to cut the deficit to 4-3.

As junior Kelli Parton was dealing in the circle, LeTourneau had chances to tie and even win the game in the next three innings, getting the tying run and even the go-ahead run to second in all three innings with less than two outs, but could not come through. Louisiana College was able to hold on and take the 4-3 win.

Parton was terrific in relief, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing only one earned run on three hits and striking out three. Junior Karen Kubacak (6-3) took the loss, despite only giving up two earned runs in 1.1 innings pitched, but allowing four walks.

Offensively, Greene was great, going 3-for-3 with a homerun, a RBI, and two runs scored while Borders was 1-for-2 with a homerun and a RBI.

In the second game, the Jackets got a leadoff hit from senior Juliana Tuel who later scored on a wild pitch for a 1-0 lead. However, Louisiana College responded with six runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 6-1 advantage.

LeTourneau looked to respond, but ended up leaving seven runners on base as they dropped game two, 9-2.

Parton was again fantastic in relief, this time going 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits to go with two strikeouts. Junior Taylor Thibodeaux (7-2) took the loss for the Jackets.

Tuel led the way, going 2-for-4 with a RBI while freshman Megan Hill was 2-for-3 from the plate. LeTourneau got eight hits in the game, but only two runs to show for it.

It doesn't get any easier for the Jackets as they hit the road on Saturday to Tyler, Texas to take on the Texas-Tyler Patriots, the No. 3 team in the nation. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
