Jackets Can't Slow Down Comets, Drop a Pair

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

RICHARDSON - The LeTourneau YellowJacket softball team opened up American Southwest Conference play on Tuesday evening as they took on the Texas-Dallas Comets on the road. After a tough first game, the Jackets fought, looking to even the two game series, but fell in extra frames.

After a scoreless top of the first in game one, the Comets (6-1-1, 2-0 ASC) got two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the 2-0 lead.

The Jackets (11-5, 0-2 ASC) started the second off with a leadoff single by freshman Shelby Borders followed by a fielder's choice which saw everyone reaching base safely. After a passed ball moved both runners into scoring position, junior Sara Whitehead singled through the infield to score two and tied the game.

However, it would not be the Jackets day despite getting many runners into scoring position. The Comets scored runs in every inning to eventually eliminate LeTourneau, 11-3, in six innings.

Junior Taylor Thibodeaux took her first loss of the season while juniors Kaylee Pritchett and Kelli Parton each saw action.

Offensively, freshman Taylor Kaderli was the only Jacket with multiple hits, going 2-for-3, while Whitehead added two RBIs and junior Anna Winter plated one more. Freshman Danielle Cotton was 1-for-1 on the afternoon as well.

In the second game, the Jackets came out ready to pounce, getting a run in the first off a RBI single from Winter and two in the third thanks again to a RBI double from Winter.

However, Texas-Dallas responded with four runs in the bottom of the third to retake the lead.

LeTourneau tied it again in fourth off a double steal attempt that turned into an error for the Comets. Texas-Dallas scored in the fifth, but LeTourneau got it back in the sixth thanks to a RBI single from freshman Megan Hill.

The Jackets went into extra innings and from the sixth inning on, left seven runners in scoring position as they could not come through in key at bat situations.

Freshman Karen Kubacak continued to battle in the circle and forced the game to continue, giving her team chances to win. The Comets were able to get the game winning run across in the ninth as they took the 6-5 win and handed Kubacak her second loss of the season.

Winter was phenomenal, going 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Hill added a 2-for-4 day with two RBIs while Whitehead was 2-for-3.

LeTourneau will now return home and look to bounce back as they welcome in the Ozarks for a four game series. First game will be a doubleheader on Friday at 4 p.m. and will have a live broadcast brought to you by Pack Internet.
