Box Score 2 LONGVIEW - After a tough Tuesday night in Richardson, the LeTourneau YellowJacket softball team responded in a dominating fashion as they returned home for the first time in almost a month. The Jackets started the day with a 4-0 win over the Ozarks Eagles before responding with a 11-0 (5) thrashing to get their ASC record back to even.
In the first game, freshman Karen Kubacak started off in trouble, giving up a walk and a single with no outs. However, she settled in and got two straight force outs followed by a strikeout to leave the inning unharmed.
The Jackets (13-5, 2-2 ASC) didn't get anything in the first, but junior Anna Winter led the second off with a single to right and advanced to second on an error. After stealing third, Winter was driven in by freshman Shleby Borders and an error found her on third base with no outs.
After a pop up, junior Jourdan Glover laid a safety squeeze down to score a run and ended up being safe on base on another Eagle (6-6, 0-2 ASC) error. Glover then stole second and after a second out, freshman Megan Hill continued her hot streak and singled home a RBI for a 3-0 lead.
The Jackets tacked on one more run in the fourth as Border led the inning off with a double followed by a RBI single by Glover.
It was all Kubacak needed as she did not allow another runner to reach base until the sixth inning. Junior Kaylee Pritchett relieved Kubacak in the sixth and finished things off for the 4-0 victory.
Kubacak improved to 5-2 on the season, pitching 5.2 innings and only allowing two hits while striking out seven batters. Pritchett added 1.1 innings of work, allowing one hit and striking out one of her own.
Offensively, Borders went 2-for-3 with a RBI and two runs scored while Glover was 2-for-2 with two RBIs, one run scored, and two stolen bases.
After an inning and a half of play in game two, the Jackets got things rolling to take control of the game. After a groundout, Glover reached on an error followed by a bunt single by junior Sara Whitehead which saw both runners advance a base on aggressive baserunning.
Junior Chloe Cooper followed that up with a single and then advanced to second followed by a two RBI single by Hill. Senior Juliana Tuel singled and stole second which set up a two RBI double by Borders for a 6-0 lead. Winter, who started the inning, came back to the plate and singled home another run.
Junior Taylor Thibodeaux was dominant in the circle, keeping the Ozarks hitless until the fourth inning.
LeTourneau scored four more runs in the fourth thanks to two RBI singles from Borders and Winter for an 11-0 lead.
Thibodeaux shut the door for the complete game shutout and the Jackets got their second ASC win of the season. She improved to 6-1 on the season, pitching all five innings and only allowing one hit to go with four strikeouts.
Borders was again fantastic offensively, going 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored while Winter was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Cooper added a 2-for-2 day with one RBI and a run scored and Hill was 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
