Box Score 2 LONGVIEW - The LeTourneau YellowJacket softball team has played eight games at home this season and have won all eight. In those games, they have scored 52 total runs and have yet to allow an opposing run cross their home plate. The Jackets finished off a four game sweep of the Ozarks with two more wins on Saturday, 7-0 and 8-0.
In game one, neither teams could get anything going through the first two and a half innings. Senior Juliana Tuel led the bottom of the third off with a walk followed by a sacrifice bunt by freshman Megan Hill. Junior Chloe Cooper then singled and freshman Shelby Borders singled to center to score one and put the Jackets (15-5, 4-2 ASC) up 1-0. Junior Anna Winter followed that up with a single to score two more runs and take a 3-0 lead.
Meanwhile, freshman Karen Kubacak dominated in the circle as she held the Ozarks (7-8, 0-4 ASC) hitless through four innings. Junior Kaylee Pritchett came on in relief and continued the trend as the Eagles did not come up with a hit through six innings.
Sophomore Brooklyn Greene and Tuel started the sixth off with back-to-back singles followed by a RBI triple to left center from Hill to extend the lead to 5-0. A couple of Ozark errors increased the lead 7-0.
Pritchett got the two batters out to hold the no hitter; however, the Ozarks got a single to break up the no-no. Pritchett got the next batter out to end the game.
Kubacak improved to 6-2 on the year, pitching four complete innings and striking out six in the win. Pritchett added three innings of work for the save and had one strikeout.
Offensively, Hill and Winter each had two RBIs on the day while Greene and Cooper added two hits each. Cooper and Tuel also scored two runs while Cooper, Borders, Winter, and freshman Danielle Cotton all had stolen bases.
It was more of the same in the second game as senior Taylor Thibodeaux got the start and put down the Eagles through three innings. Hill led the third off by reaching on an error followed by a single by Cooper. The Jackets then put together a barrage of hits starting with a RBI double by junior Sara Whitehead followed by a RBI single from Borders. Winter and Greene followed that up with RBIs of their own and the Jackets were up 4-0.
As Thibodeaux continued to deal, LeTourneau looked to finish the series off in the fifth as Borders led things off with a single followed by stealing second. Winter scored her with a RBI single followed by a single by Greene. Freshman Lana Holbrook came up and doubled to right to score another run and Tuel put the ball in play to score one more for the 7-0 lead.
After a pair of walks, Cooper finished things off with a single for the 8-0 win in five innings.
Thibodeaux improved to 7-1 on the season, pitching five innings and only allowing three hits while striking out nine batters to get the complete game shutout.
Cooper, Whitehead, Borders, and Greene all had two of the 12 hits for the Jackets on this day while Winter drove in a pair. Borders scored two runs on the afternoon as six different Jackets scored RBIs in the game.
LeTourneau will take a couple days off before the intensity goes to another level as the Jacket next three opponents are all in the NFCA Top 25. They go to Pineville on Tuesday to take on No. 24 Louisiana College, first pitch of a doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
