The LeTourneau University women's soccer team dropped a 6-0 decision to East Texas Baptist on Thursday night at the Joyce Family Athletic Village in the American Southwest Conference opener for both teams.
The YellowJackets (1-9, 0-1 ASC) relied on a possession-oriented effort which led to 12 offside calls on the visiting Tigers. LeTourneau started the game with back-to-back corner kicks despite playing with only eight players.
East Texas Baptist (2-3, 1-0 ASC) went ahead in the 22nd minute when Natalie Torres scored on a breakaway for the early 1-0 lead.
LeTourneau continued to set up opportunities throughout the contest and went into the halftime break with a 1-0 deficit. Despite the deficit, the YellowJacket team continued to cause havoc for the East Texas Baptist offense as LETU sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Aguillen made three saves in the first 45 minutes.
The Tigers added to their lead when they scored five times in the second 45 minutes but the YellowJacket team continued to put forth a complete team effort, noted LETU head coach Jamie Lindvall.
"Our women played a great complete game. Eric Liddell talked about God making him fast and feeling His pleasure when he ran. I think that watching our girls play brings God that same pleasure and I'm proud to get to be a part of this team," said the first year head coach.
The next contest for LeTourneau is on Friday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Pineville, Louisiana to face Louisiana College at 5 p.m.
