Cabrera and the YellowJackets' Men's Soccer Team Blank ETBU, 2-0

LeTourneau University sophomore goalkeeper Miguel Cabrera recorded his second-straight shutout to lead the YellowJackets to a 2-0 win over local rival, East Texas Baptist on Saturday night.

The YellowJackets (3-8-1, 1-2-1 ASC) were solid on the defensive side for the entire 90 minutes. Cabrera organized a LeTourneau defense that withstood 21 shots from the Tigers including seven on goal to account for seven saves by Cabrera in the win.

LeTourneau got on the board in the 14th minute when freshman Alan Flores converted on a penalty kick for his third goal of the season. The goal energized the YellowJackets, who were coming off a solid performance in a 0-0 tie on Friday night against Louisiana College.

The Tigers (3-4-2, 2-2 ASC) out shot LeTourneau by a 21 to 14 margin with Gustavo Vasquez recording a match-high six shots. Goalkeeper Juan Perales was strong between the posts with an eight save effort in the loss. ETBU nearly got on the scoreboard when a Pedro Guerra shot hit the cross bar in the 88th minute.

Holding a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute sophomore Adam Schultz took it inside the 18 from junior Mario Lopez and put it past Perales in the lower left for his team-leading fifth goal on the season.

The YellowJackets will next be on the road for two matches starting with a contest against Hardin-Simmons on Friday, Oct. 17 at 3 p.m. in Abilene.
