Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The LeTourneau University softball team swept a doubleheader with a pair of mercy-rule wins in five innings over Centenary, 12-0 and 13-0 in Shreveport on Saturday. The 12 runs in a season opener are the most by a LeTourneau team in program history.

The YellowJackets (2-0) controlled all facets of the game in the circle and at the plate. LeTourneau pitching gave up just four hits and the offense pounded out 14 hits in each win. Anna Winter, Courtney Matulis and Taylor Kaderli each had two hits in both games; plus six-different YellowJackets had multiple RBI in the doubleheader sweep.

"Today, our kids did everything we ask of them and we are extremely proud," said LeTourneau head coach Kate Bell. "Our execution and energy was on point from the first pitch to the last."

In game one, LeTourneau plated five runs in the first inning, two in the third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth. To get things started, with the bases loaded, Anna Winter hit a three-RBI triple to clear the bases for the early 3-0 lead. A RBI groundout plated Winter, then with two outs Emily Ramey tripled to right field. She came around to score on a RBI single by Kaderli.

The Ladies stranded a pair of runners in the second, third and the fifth innings but that did not silent the LeTourneau offense, which plated two runs in the third, four in the fourth and another run in the fifth. With the double-digit run lead, the YellowJackets secured the mercy-run rule victory.

Eighth players had a hit in the win for LeTourneau including Emily Ramsey, who had three to lead the YellowJackets. Plus, Courtney Matulis, Anna Winter and Megan each had two hits. Winter scored twice and had four RBIs to lead the attack, she was joined in the offensive onslaught by Hill, who had three RBIs and two runs scored.

LeTourneau starting pitcher Kelli Parton picked up the win, striking out four and giving up just two hits to the 13 batters she faced.

The YellowJackets picked up where they left off in game two of the doubleheader. Nine players for LeTourneau had a hit in the 13-0 win including Jourdan Glover, who went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs. Taylor Kaderli, Courtney Matulis and Anna Winter also had two hits for the YellowJackets.

After scoring two in the top of the first, LeTourneau starting pitcher Taylor Thibodeaux had a pair of strikeouts to quickly silent the Centenary bats. She got eight additional runs of support in the second inning. The YellowJackets did all of its damage with two outs and following a Centenary error. Two of the runs came on a two-run homerun by Glover and two more came in on a two-RBI single by Kaderli.

After being held off the scoreboard in the third, the YellowJackets plated two more in the fourth and another in the fifth to complete the mercy-rule victory. Thibodeaux finished with three strikeouts and allowed just one hit for the win.

This marks the second-straight year that LeTourneau has opened the season with a doubleheader sweep of Centenary. LeTourneau will return to action on Friday, Feb. 14 when they travel to Brownwood to face Howard Payne University in a doubleheader.
