Box Score 2 The LeTourneau University softball team split a doubleheader with Sul Ross State, winning 8-0 in game one and falling in game two, 6-4.
Game 1
The YellowJackets (9-13, 6-11 ASC) took the opener - 8-0, five innings. In the win, five-different players had multiple hits to lead a 12-hit attack. The top three of the order combined to go 6-for-8, six RBI and four runs scored.
The Lobos (2-19, 2-14 ASC) were limited to just three hits in the five-inning loss.
LeTourneau scored twice in the first and second innings en route to an early 4-0 lead. They added a run in the fourth and three in the fifth to complete the 8-0 win. In the first, they had RBI singles by
Jourdan Glover and
Anna Winter for the early 2-0 lead.
Glover was involved two of the next three runs for LeTourneau. She had a RBI double in the second inning; plus in the fourth, following a
Taylor Kaderli triple, the Fort Worth native attempted to second after a walk that caught the attention of the Sul Ross State defense. The SRSU defense got Glover going to second but an alert Kaderli scored from the third to put the YellowJackets ahead 5-0.
With a 5-0 lead in the fifth, the YellowJackets scored three times – once on a
Whitney Judd RBI single and two more came in on a two-RBI double by Kaderli to end the contest. LeTourneau starting pitcher
Kelli Parton picked up the shutout win after striking out five.
Game 2
A five-run first inning led the visiting Lobos to a 6-4 win over the host YellowJackets. LeTourneau continued to work away at the deficit, stranding a runner in the fifth and the bases loaded in the sixth. Sul Ross State picked up an insurance run in the seventh for the final margin.
The Lobos scored five runs on four hits as 11 batters came to bat in the first inning for the early lead. The YellowJackets came back to mount a threat in its half of the first. However, with runners on first and second and none out, a
Jourdan Glover fly ball was caught by the SRSU centerfielder. Then, the SRSU centerfielder attempted to throw out
Whitney Judd, who was trying to score from second, at the plate. The Lobos, then, threw the ball to third to get
Taylor Kaderli, who was attempting to go from first to third. Then, SRSU elected to appeal that Judd, who was ruled out and believed to have left early from second to end the threat by the host YellowJackets.
Trailing 5-0, LeTourneau scored three times in the second on two hits to cut the deficit, 5-3. The YellowJackets stranded a pair in the third before cutting the SRSU lead to one in the fourth, 5-4, on a one-out RBI double by
Whitney Judd. LeTourneau stranded the tying run at third in the inning.
LeTourneau mounted threats in the fifth and sixth inning as they stranded a runner in the fifth and the bases loaded in the sixth.
The Lobos added to their lead in the seventh with an additional run in the seventh before retiring the YellowJackets in order in the seventh for the 6-4 win.
The two teams will wrap up the series with an 11 a.m. contest at the LeTourneau University Softball Complex.
