LETU Baseball Drops Pair to Local Rival East Texas Baptist

Local rival East Texas Baptist took a pair of games from the LeTourenau University baseball team, 16-5 and 18-11 on Saturday at Woods Field in Marshall.


The YellowJackets (8-16, 5-10 ASC) started the day with a 3-0 before the Tigers scored nine unanswered runs after being held scoreless in the first two innings.


LeTourneau plated two more in the sixth before ETBU came right back to score seven in its half of the inning.

Eight-different players for LeTourneau contributed to a 10-hit attack including senior Taylor Empkey and freshman Walker Blake, who had a pair. Senior Brandon Applewhite and junior Jacob Simmons each had a pair of RBI. 

For East Texas Baptist, they had 14 hits including three each from Carson Combs and Dynas Doud. Conner Combs had six RBI and brother, Casey had four.

In the nightcap, LeTourneau and ETBU combined for 29 runs and 32 hits. The YellowJackets fought back from an early 4-1 deficit to take a 7-4 advantage in the third inning with six runs on seven hits. 
The offensive fireworks were not limited to the YellowJackets as the Tigers came back with six for themselves to regain the lead with a 10-7 advantage. ETBU remained in front for the remainder of the contest en route to the 18-11 win. 

Nine-different players for LeTourneau had a hit in the 15-hit attack including sophomore Rayne Hobbs, junior Jacob Simmons and senior Dylan Wadyko, who each had three hits. The YellowJackets' Simmons, Wadyko and senior Bryce Henry each had two RBI. For ETBU, Dynas Doud and Brice Winter each had three hits and Zach Compton added four RBI. 


Next, the YellowJackets will begin a four-game homestand at Conrad-Vernon Field including a three-game series against Howard Payne. The series will start on Friday night, April 10 at 7 p.m.
