Season Preview: Women's Soccer

LONGVIEW, Texas – Six hundred sixty-nine days.

That's how many days will have passed between LeTourneau women's soccer matches in the normal fall season when they take on Austin College Saturday in Sherman, Texas.

Since that match, Alyssa Taramona was named head coach on July 24, 2020. Her first season in Longview was delayed until spring 2021. Once the squad was able to begin competition, things didn't go as planned and the Yellowjackets struggled to an 2-8-2 record. Taramona and her squad won't use injuries, COVID-19 or any other reasons the team struggled last season, instead they are excited to start the campaign.

"We are really excited for the season," Taramona said. "The preseason ranking lights a fire and fuels our motivation."

All-American Southwest Conference honorees Kiersten Reeser, Reagan Sandford and Heather Fellows return from last season. Playing with as few as 14 student athletes at times during last season, Tamora bolstered the bench and depth with her first recruiting class.

"We will use the early games as a gauge of where our team is at and what we need to work on before heading in to league play," Taramona said.

After the season opener, the Yellowjackets open the home slate with three consecutive fixtures beginning with Dallas Monday, before entertaining Jarvis Christian Sept. 10 and Millsaps Sept. 12. LETU head to Tennessee the following week and take on Sewanee Sept. 17 and Maryville Sept. 18.

The quest for the regular-season title encompasses 10 matches, one against every league member. LETU hosts Concordia (Texas), Mary Hardin-Baylor, UT Dallas, Ozarks and East Texas Baptist. Conference road contests include trips to Hardin-Simmons, McMurry, Belhaven, Sul Ross State and Howard Payne.

Centenary (La.) visits Longview Oct. 10 for an out-of-conference tilt.
