RICHARDSON, Texas –LeTourneau's softball team dropped its first two games of the series at UT Dallas Friday, 5-2 and 4-3.
The YellowJackets (0-2, 0-2 American Southwest Conference) fell down 1-0 heading into the third inning but
Hunter Handley tied the contest after taking advantage of a throwing by the Comets second baseman. After blanking UTD in the bottom of the third, LETU struck again at the top of fourth when
Callie Poore ripped one down the middle to help send
Madelyn Tannery home. The Jackets led 2-1 moving into the bottom of the fourth.
A homer from UTD's Celeste Soliz brought in two runs, snatching the lead back for the Comets, 3-2. UT Dallas stretched its lead by three runs after another homer from the Comets in the bottom of the fifth ultimately put the game away.
Mickenzie Murry tallied three hits, while Tannery had two hits and a run scored. Poore totaled one hit and an RBI.
Bailey Richey took the loss for the Jackets but not before collecting four strikeouts.
In the second game the Jackets came out stinging, springing out to a 2-0 lead after Poore doubled down the right field line to send
Emilee Anderson home and
Kylie Grisham singled to center field to send poore in for a score in the first inning.
Madison Doherty extended the LETU lead at the top of the second when
Lauren Wilking grounded out second base to collect an RBI, giving the YellowJackets a 3-0 cushion. UTD matched the Doherty run in the bottom of the second, scoring on a Jacket field error to be down two runs.
After two scoreless innings in the third and the fourth, UT Dallas put up another run in the bottom of the fifth when Avery Markley singled through the left side to bring home Alexia Mullen to put UTD down a run. The Comets won it in the bottom of the sixth, tacking on two runs.
Grisham went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI, while Doherty finished 2-for-3 with one run scored. Poore and Wilking each tallied one RBI apiece. LETU's
Hailee Leger took the loss in the second contest, allowing seven hits, four runs, and struck out seven batters.
The YellowJackets return to UTD Softball field Saturday at 12 p.m. to finish of its three-game series.
