RICHARDSON, Texas – LeTourneau softball fell in its final game of the series Saturday at the University of Texas at Dallas, 10-2.
The Jackets drop to 0-3 overall, 0-3 in American Southwest Conference play. UT Dallas improves to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in league play.
LETU took an early lead in the opening inning when
Madelyn Tannery hit one down the middle, sending
Emilee Anderson across home plate to give LeTourneau a 1-0 advantage. UTD struck back quickly in the bottom half of the first inning, tallying four runs to move ahead of the Jackets going into the second inning.
The YellowJackets second run came in the top of the third after freshmen
Alexa Neilon cranked one over the gate, but the Comets answered with a run of its own in the bottom of the inning.
UT Dallas would go on to tack on four more runs in the bottom of the sixth, ultimately putting the contest to rest to win the series.
Ashley Crawford went 2-of-3 at the plate.
Mickenzie Murry, Tannery, Anderson,
Madison Doherty, Alyssa Tores and Neilon all had a hit on the day. Tannery and Neilon had the two lone RBIs.
UTD's Emily Hoelscher went the distance for the Comets, pitching all six innings with seven strikeouts and eight hits allowed. LETU's Tannery took the loss for the Jackets, but
Jade Merrell and
Laney Taylor saw some time on the mound. Merrell pitched 3.1 innings, facing 12 batters, while Taylor only faced one.
LeTourneau will be back in action as it heads to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the BSC Classic February 19-20, hosted by Birmingham-Southern College.
