LETU Bounces Back in Nightcap at Trinity

Box Score SAN ANTONIO – LETU Softball bounced back in game two of its doubleheader at Trinity, downing the Tigers, 15-8.

Eight YellowJackets tallied at least one hit in game two, while 15 runs is the most by an LETU softball team since 2019. The Jackets advance to 5-12 on the season, while Trinity falls to 8-13.

Alysa Torres got the bats going for the LETU opening the first inning with a triple to right field for an RBI. Torres also leads the YellowJackets in hits this season. LeTourneau tacked on another run in the first when Alexa Neilon singled to right field to bring in Torres.

The Tigers attempted to shring the LETU lead in the bottom of the second with one, but the YellowJackets responded in the top half of the third with a whopping seven run inning.

Callie Poore started the run frenzy when she dropped one in left center for a double and RBI. Preslie Turney found a sweet spot in right center, advancing Neilon, Torres and Poore across home plate to collect three RBIs. Madelyn Tannery followed Turney as she tripled to right center for her own three RBIs to give LETU an eight run lead.

Trinity tallied one run in the bottom half of the third, but a LeTourneau tacked on two more runs to extend its lead, 11-2. Hunter Handley and Macy Clevenger claimed responsibility for LETU's two runs when they both singled through the right side for an RBI each.

TU wouldn't go away without a fight, capitalizing on a couple YellowJacket errors to notch a five run inning in the bottom of the fourth to cut the LETU lead to four, 11-7.

LeTourneau took advantage of some errors of its own, scoring two runs after a throwing error by the Tigers. Poore added an insurance run with a banger down the right field line for a homerun, tallying her second of the day to help claim the game two victory.

Tannery and Turney led the Jackets with three RBIs apiece. Poore went 2-2 at the plate, while Torres went 3-5. Hailee Leger earned the win in the circle for the YellowJackets.
