RICHARDSON, Texas --
Murphy Williams was named the ASC Newcomer of the Year and eight LeTourneau softball players earned All-ASC honors, as the conference released its season awards on Wednesday.
Williams was the Newcomer of the Year and also earned first team All-ASC.
Hailee Leger and
Kenna Hendry joined Williams on the first team, while
Kylie Grisham earned second team honors.
Lexi Hutchins,
Mickenzie Murry,
Hunter Handley, and
Laney Taylor all earned honorable mention accolades.
A senior from Gladewater, Texas, Williams made her presence known in her first year at LeTourneau. A two-way player, Williams led the team with 13 wins in the circle to go with a 2.74 ERA and 14 complete games and 103 strikeouts in 125 innings pitched. At the plate, she hit .333 and led the YellowJackets with six homers and 31 RBIs. Williams was top-five in the ASC in complete games and innings pitched on the year. She tossed a no-hitter and hit two home runs in a win over McMurry on April 15 and was a two-time ASC Pitcher of the Week honoree and one-time ASC Hitter of the Week.
Leger, a junior from Belle Chasse, La., had an outstanding season to collect her first career All-ASC nod. She compiled a 10-7 overall record with an ASC-leading 1.40 ERA in 115 innings of work on the year. Leger struck out 73 hitters and walked just 13 in her 115 innings. She tossed a one-hitter vs. Ozarks on May 5 and had four shutouts on the year, while going a stretch of 21.1 consecutive scoreless innings at the end of the season. Leger earned ASC Pitcher of the Week honors twice.
Hendry, a sophomore from Spring, Texas, earns her first career All-ASC selection. She hit a career-high .353 on the year with a team-leading 13 doubles to go with one home run and 23 RBIs. Hendry also stole 19 bases and scored 32 runs on the year. Hendry was second on the team with 10 multi-hit games and had four multi-RBI games, including five RBIs in a win over Ozarks. In ASC games, Hendry hit .316 with a home run and 16 RBIs.
Grisham, a sophomore from Huntsville, Texas, becomes a two-time All-ASC honoree with her second team selection. The sophomore led the team in batting at .358 and scored a team-best 39 runs to go with two home runs, 19 RBIs, and 12 extra-base hits. Grisham also earned a spot on the ASC All-Tournament team after helping the YellowJackets win two games. She hit .348 in conference games and both of her homers came in ASC play. Grisham led the team with 17 multi-hit games and five multi-RBI games.
Hutchins, a senior from Joaquin, Texas, earns her first All-ASC nod. She hit three homers on the year and drove in 14 while racking up nine doubles. Hutchins had two of the biggest hits for the YellowJackets during the season with her walk-off RBI double in the seventh inning of a comeback win over then-No. 23 Hardin-Simmons along with a go-ahead, two-run double against Hardin-Simmons later in the same day helped LeTourneau to a sweep. Hutchins had four multi-RBI games on the year.
Murry, a junior from Shelbyville, Texas, collects her second career All-ASC honor. Murry played in 43 games and batted .252 with 14 RBIs, 18 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases. She was third on the team eight multi-hit games and committed just four errors in the field between the outfield and second base.
Handley, a senior from Coppell, Texas, earns her first All-ASC honor. A defensive specialist at third base, Handley was sure-handed throughout the year at the hot corner as she compiled a .936 fielding percentage. She started in 43 games and totaled 56 at-bats and had two doubles with three RBIs.
Taylor, a sophomore from Sibley, La., makes her first All-ASC team. She hit .284 at the plate with a homer, 17 RBIs, and eight doubles on the year. In the circle, Taylor compiled a 3-1 record with a 2.16 ERA and one save in 35.2 innings pitched. She tossed 7.2 innings in relief and allowed just one run in a key sweep of Hardin-Simmons in April. Taylor batted .310 in ASC play with 13 RBIs. She had seven multi-hit games and tied for the team-lead with five multi-RBI games.
LeTourneau ended the year with a program-record 28 wins and a .636 winning percentage.Â
