NORMAN, Okla. -- LeTourneau men's golf junior
Reed Gesse was named a GCAA All-America Scholar recipient for his efforts on the course and in the classroom in 2022-23, announced the organization on Wednesday.
199 NCAA Division III athletes from 75 schools earned 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholar honors.
From Tyler, Texas, Gesse was part of the LeTourneau team that made history this season as the YellowJackets earned a berth into the NCAA Division III Championships for the first time. An All-ASC honorable mention selection, Gesse was fourth on the team in scoring average at 75.71 and had two top-10 finishes on the year. He had a low round of 68 at the season-opening UMHB Fall Invitational where he placed sixth with a 1-under, 139.
Majoring in kinesiology with a concentration in exercise science, Gesse holds a 3.92 GPA. He is a two-time ASC Academic All-Conference honoree and earned ASC Distinguished Scholar-Athlete this season. Additionally, Gesse collected CSC Academic All-District honors this year.
To be eligible for GCAA All-America Scholar nomination, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior both academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, under 78.0 in NCAA Division II, under 79.0 in NCAA Division III, under 78.0 in NAIA, and under 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
