SUWANEE, Ga. -- After earning medalist honors in the season-opening tournament, LeTourneau men's golf freshman Rafa Torres was named the SCAC Golfer of the Week, announced the conference on Wednesday.

Torres earns his first career weekly honor.

A freshman from Madrid, Spain, Torres shot a 4-under, 68 in the final round to come back and tie teammate Owen Prewitt for first at the Energy Weldfab Tempest Intercollegiate. He birdied the 17th hole to get even and then sank a short putt on the second playoff hole to capture medalist honors. Torres finished the tournament with a 7-under, 209 (72-69-68).

Torres had five birdies and an eagle in the final round, and totaled 12 birdies and two eagles for the tournament.

LeTourneau, ranked No. 13 in the preseason Bushnell/Golfweek Top 25, carded a 1-under, 863 (295-284-284) to earn the title for a third straight year. The LeTourneau B team was second overall with an 888 (302-297-289) as the YellowJackets dominated the 12-team field.

LeTourneau returns to tournament play on Sept. 21-23 at the NCAA Division III Preview at Mission Inn Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.
