SUWANEE, Ga. --  A senior from Lindale, Texas, and an interdisciplinary studies major, Timothy Black has been selected as the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning Oct. 5.

The SCAC Character and Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics and serve their campus and community.

Black is a four-year member of the LeTourneau men's tennis program. He earned All-SCAC doubles second team with Zach Farris last season and was a SCAC Doubles Team of the Week honoree.

Black has been a leader on campus and within his team since arriving at LeTourneau. He currently is in his second year of serving as a resident assistant on campus and was a spiritual life assistant as a sophomore. He is also in his second year of being a team captain. Through his work as a leader on campus and within his team, Black had the honor of baptizing two LeTourneau students.

This year, Black has added SAAC co-President to his name after being a SAAC representative for men's tennis the previous two years. He represented LeTourneau and SAAC at conferences at the NCAA Sports Forum in Washington, D.C., and the Leadership Forum at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis, Ind.

In his free time on campus, Black serves as one of the lead student photographers for the LeTourneau athletics communication office. Many of his photographs and videos have appeared across the LeTourneau digital media landscape.

Black was named to the SCAC All-Sportsmanship team as a junior.

In the classroom, Black is a three-time conference all-academic honoree and collected both ITA Scholar-Athlete and CSC Academic All-District accolades last season.

"Tim is a caring team leader who makes everyone feel welcomed, valued and supported," said LeTourneau head tennis coach Suzanne Merritt. "He leads with kindness and encouragement and has the ability to bring the team together, creating an environment where each player feels comfortable and excited to contribute. He openly demonstrates his faith and trust in God each day in the ways he treats everyone around him, shows integrity, and genuinely cares for his teammates and others in his life. Tim is a leader who truly puts the team first."
