MY LETU STORY: Clayton Holt

NOTE: This is part of a series on letuathletics.com with feature stories written by senior student-athletes about their time at LeTourneau and the impact it has made on them.

By: Clayton Holt | Sr. | Baseball

I originally came to LeTourneau, I thought that I was simply continuing my baseball career.

I didn’t comprehend what God had in store for me here. I was greatly encouraged by the team culture and several of my older teammates who invested so much time into me on and off the field. The relationships I have made here have had the biggest impact on me and I am grateful for all the love and support everyone has given to me at this school.

During my time here I have made many lifelong friends as well as being mentored by brothers and sisters in Christ. This highlights one of the core values of LETU which is, “Cultivating Disciples.”

On the academic side, all of my professors were very supportive of me in my athletic pursuits and would go out of their way to help me with anything from homework extensions to travel absences. They also allowed me to think outside the box and gave a lot of freedom to apply my own creativity to the classroom. This elevated my learning experience and aided my desire to learn.

Dr. [Wayne] Jacobs really embodied what it meant to be a professor at LeTourneau to me. He helped me navigate my major changes, and my confusing course scheduling. He was always available whenever I needed to talk and showed grace whenever I struggled. Andrew Mindeman is another instructor I had, whom I also had the opportunity to work alongside in the sports information department. He taught me that the connections you make around campus, and even with others in your field can have a huge impact on your career. He also taught me the value of self-analysis and striving to do the best job you can no matter what it is.

There are many other faculty and staff members who positively impacted me in many ways, but I would need 100 pages to write about all of them.

This brings me to the biggest impact on my life from LeTourneau: relationships. During my time here I have made many lifelong friends as well as being mentored by brothers and sisters in Christ. This highlights one of the core values of LETU which is, “Cultivating Disciples.”

The biggest impact on my faith came from my teammates, Landon Stocks, Cruz Cox, Zach Baker, and Ben Jones. They would lead team Bible studies and have conversations about their faith anytime and anywhere. They fearlessly shared the Gospel with everyone around them. They have shaped me into the man I am today through their ministry, love, and pouring into me beyond the baseball field. This has opened my eyes to see the influence we have on those around us.

These experiences have allowed me to begin to share my story with those around me and begin to minister to the younger guys on the team. It has been a blessing to be able to see how those before me poured into me and enabled me to carry on the legacy that is LeTourneau.

I am excited and confident to take the lessons I have learned from this great school and be salt and light in the workplace.
