SEGUIN, Texas --
Emerson Swanner claimed her first career tournament title and the LeTourneau women's golf team opened the fall season by placing second at the John Nellermoe Classic, hosted by Texas Lutheran at Starcke Park Golf Course on Tuesday.
Swanner tied with Concordia Texas' Katelyn Miller at 10-over, 154 for the tournament, but the LeTourneau junior outlasted Miller in the playoff to capture the title. Swanner shot a pair of 77s in the 36-hole tournament and made par on her 18th hole on Tuesday to force the playoff.
It was the first career tournament title for Swanner and her seventh career top-10 finish.
As a team, LeTourneau placed second in the 10-team field comprised mostly of SCAC foes. The YellowJackets shot a 329 in Monday's first round before improving by five strokes for a 324 in round two. Hardin-Simmons took the team title with a 646 (323-323).
Calli Hoesterey finished in a tie for 11th with a 164 (83-81) and one birdie in the tournament. Freshman
Jordan Wong made her collegiate debut and shot a 165 (85-80) to finish tied for 14th.
Halle Carr finished with a 171 (86-85) and
Leilani Hanna also made her collegiate debut with a 174 (85-89).
LeTourneau was second in the field in par-3 scoring (3.52) and tallied the second-most pars (88).

LeTourneau returns to action at the Jacksonville College Invitational on Sept. 28-29.
